KAT & platforms

Beyond the App Store: KAT, the AI operating system, and security and cloud tools for teams.

KAT AI OS, build state October 12, 2026

KAT, super-intelligent, energy-efficient AI OS

KAT is not an operating system with an AI on top. KAT is the AI, and it runs the machine: boots the hardware, configures it, manages it, and talks to the people in the room. Everything beneath it is a guardrail, not software.

THE RULE

Fixed below, intelligent above

Everything below the AI is fixed, tiny and provable. Everything above it is the AI. There is no middle: no OS, no shell, no apps.

THE INTERFACE

Twelve calls, and nothing else

sense · act · speak · show · remember · recall · forget · send · receive · log · time · halt. One bounded interface, reachable only by KAT.

THE APPROVAL

The request is the approval

No login. Each request is scoped by the profile of the person asking, identified for that one request by voice, face and liveness.

The five layers

L4 · HumanMakes requests, answers setup, sets limits, holds stop authority.
L3 · KATThe AI. The only general-purpose software. Understands, plans, remembers, decides. Acts only through the twelve calls. The one layer that manages itself.
L2 · FloorA fixed runtime with four jobs: initialize hardware, schedule KAT, move bytes, validate and execute the twelve calls. No shell, no file system, no process model.
L1 · GuardrailsCircuits, not software: root of trust, watchdog, limit clamps for force, speed, zone, power and volume, and the physical stop. Accepts no commands from outside the device.
L0 · HardwareCompute, memory, sensors, actuators. Today a Mac test desktop; later, KAT in silicon.
WHY IT MATTERS

No software path in

Every remote compromise on record got in through a software path. KAT removes the path: network only to paired peers whose traffic is information, and the Internet never reaches KAT. The threat moves from remote-and-cheap to physical-and-expensive.

HOW KAT LEARNS

Four bounded places

Working memory with the person in front of her, facts she is asked to keep in that person's own words, routines observed during staging, and study records from quizzes. Reference knowledge is never learned; it arrives as signed knowledge packs.

WHERE KAT LIVES

Bandwidth, not FLOPS

Conversation is decode-bound: every spoken token streams the whole model out of memory once. Tokens per second is memory bandwidth divided by model size, so the machine is chosen by bandwidth and capacity, from a quiet room appliance to a robot body.

Built in three days: nineteen merged pull requests and two test suites that gate every merge, 15 floor tests and 149 end-to-end tests. The floor is 1,177 lines of Rust. A heartbeat every 500 ms keeps the watchdog fed; silence for 2 seconds puts the machine in a safe state without any software involved. KAT: AI without the OS, at a glance

The two-page companion to the white paper: the five layers, the twelve calls, and the hardware to run it on.

A one-look summary of the KAT architecture. Five layers from hardware to human, where everything below the AI is fixed, tiny and provable; one bounded interface of twelve calls and nothing else; and no login, because the request is the approval, scoped by who is asking. Includes the operational concept and interface diagrams, the build state as of October 2026, how KAT learns within bounds, and why the choice of machine comes down to memory bandwidth rather than FLOPS.

PIIPER

Find your leaked personal data. Watch it. Get it taken down.

  • Reconnaissance: scans dark-web forums, marketplaces, paste sites, breach repositories and data brokers for your email, phone, name and Social Security number.
  • Protection: your data is encrypted on your own device. The scanner compares one-way tokens and never handles your readable information.
  • Removal: generates signed GDPR and CCPA deletion requests, tracks every deadline and re-checks until the listing is gone.
  • Honest about limits: dark-web postings can rarely be deleted. PIIPER says so, then gives clear next steps.

Prototype · digital forensics

Piper forensics tools (BO)

Collect, hash and track evidence from systems you own, without altering it.

  • Evidence collectors: file hashes, bounded log excerpts and process snapshots.
  • Read-only YARA scanning: hashes each file before and after the scan and stops if it changed.
  • Chain of custody: an append-only record of who handled each item, with a named custodian.
  • Integrity checks: re-verify any item against the hash recorded at collection; tampering is flagged, never overwritten.
  • Case export: a single self-contained case file for review.

Collection requires a declared basis: owned system, authorized incident-response engagement, or custody transfer.

Prototype · security testing

Piper penetration-testing tools

Scanning and discovery, launched from the Piper dashboard against authorized targets only.

  • Vulnerability scan: configure and launch a Nessus scan of a declared target.
  • Web crawl and asset discovery: launch a Katana crawl of a declared web target.
  • Honeypot deployment: raise a reviewable deployment request for a network segment you own.
  • Scope guardrail: nothing runs until the target is declared as owned or covered by an authorized engagement.
  • Job history: every job is logged and labelled as launched, simulated or waiting on a manual step.

Works with your own Nessus and Katana installations. Third-party tools are not included and belong to their owners.

Enterprise · cloud onboarding

Cloud Migration Portal

Account and workload intake for landing-zone onboarding.

  • One static file. No backend and no database to secure.
  • Everything typed stays in the browser until it is exported as a package, which can be AES-256-GCM encrypted.
  • Access by PKI / mutual TLS client certificates, including CAC/PIV smartcards.
Enterprise · cloud compliance

Elastic RMF™

Continuous authorization for cloud and hybrid systems.

7zero-trust pillars assessed
1,000+SP 800-53 Rev 5 controls mapped
4evidence export formats
< 60srequest to vended service
  • One governed pipeline: request → validate → deploy → map → evidence.
  • Every change is validated and mapped to the NIST controls it satisfies, so evidence is produced as deployment happens.
  • Commercial, GovCloud, multi-cloud and hybrid; runs in air-gapped enclaves.

U.S. Patent Pending, App. No. 64/119,181.

April 2026

Agentic AI Risk

A cross-domain white paper on failure patterns, cloud attack paths, forensics and governance.

Covers December 2024 to April 2026, as AI agents moved into inboxes, browsers, shopping carts, developer workstations and cloud control planes. It finds that the sharpest failures come from missing identity, authorization and delegation controls around tool-using agents, rather than from the models themselves. Written for executive, policy and technical readers.

Cloud Migration Methods

Lift and shift, or a capability-to-service crosswalk: how to choose a path to the cloud.

A guide to the two main ways of moving applications and workloads from on-premises environments to the cloud. It compares rehosting with mapping each capability to a cloud service, covering scalability, cost-effectiveness, return on investment, total cost of operations, best practices and a combined approach, to help organizations plan a migration that fits their goals and timeline.

Breaking the Memory Wall

Software-free data movement and hardwired AI.

A guide to the hardware foundations of modern AI for leaders and engineers choosing infrastructure for training, inference and secure deployment. It explains why the memory wall exists (AI text generation is mostly a memory-streaming problem), why software layers make it worse, and how hardwired, memory-first chips break through it, with comparisons, cost, security controls and case studies of Taalas, Cerebras, Groq and Google TPU.

October 2026 · v1.1

The AI Operating System

One intelligence, no software layers, and human-approved autonomy.

How AI should control the machines it runs on. Instead of sitting as one more application on top of a boot loader, operating system, drivers and services, the AI boots and manages the hardware itself, with small fixed circuits beneath it as guardrails. The paper covers the layered architecture, how a system learns a space through staging, profiles and identity that govern who can ask for what, and the safety and privacy controls required. For leaders, architects and engineers designing intelligent devices, autonomous systems and smart environments.

How KatWorks builds

Three rules every KatWorks app follows.

Private by default

The apps are built to work on your device and collect nothing about you. Each app's privacy page says so in plain words.

Easy on busy brains

Designed AuADHD-first: one clear thing at a time, short sessions, no walls of text, nothing shouting for attention.

Made by a person

One developer, one desk. When you write to support, you are writing to the person who built the app.

About KatWorks

KatWorks was started by Patricia “Kat” Luttrell, working in Maryland, filled with ideas.

The logo is Kat's Black Panther custom armored black Jeep, seen head-on: armor, sound-motion lights, a little different from everything else on the road, and made to go where the pavement stops.
